What To Expect
Sessions are person-centered, interactive, and tailored to your needs. We work together to find areas that are sensitive and in need of hands-on attention. We take into account how multiple systems in the body interact and contribute to your experience while considering: life stressors, daily movement habits, past impacts, events and injuries, etc. Getting context into why our nervous system is in a state of dysregulation helps us develop goals on how to move forward.
We take time at the beginning of each session to check in on how your life is affecting your current state. We might look into how events from your past might be contributing to the present experiences in your body. Throughout the session, I might ask for some participation from you which can be in the form of gentle awareness/body scanning exercises or gentle movements while I engage that area of your body hands on. Most of the session is done on the treatment table, but sometimes treatment can be done sitting or upright, assessing how the body moves in space.
Myofascial Release techniques can vary with pressure applied, but are done with a comfortable amount of pressure and holds are slow and sustained. I may guide various areas of your body into comfortable positions so you can sense this change in position and how it might differ from your usual holding or movement pattern.
With all of this said, I ask that you bring comfortable loose-fitted gym wear (shorts, tank top/sports bra) - attire that allows for maximum skin contact that you are still comfortable wearing.
