During the first session, we will explore your past health history to get a sense of how these events or challenges are contributing to your current experience. We will develop a treatment approach to help work toward your goals, considering the duration and number of sessions it might take to help bring you closer to these goals. We can also look into some self-care strategies that can help you integrate the work, and build independence outside of this therapeutic setting.

Please bring clothing that you are comfortable in that allows for maximum skin contact - gym attire, shorts, sports bra/tank top. The different approaches to treatment are carried out in different contexts in the treatment room. For example, we might do some hands on work with you laying on the table, with some gentle movement involved. Or we may do some seated awareness exercises while in the chair. Your comfort in the therapeutic setting is a top priority.

While there may be areas in your body that are particularly sensitive to touch, the hands on techniques are meant to be comfortable with a goal to decrease sensitivity. Areas of the body that are moved or guided will be done in ranges that are comfortable for you. With that said, your feedback is important. Please let me know at any time if anything is uncomfortable or painful and we can stop or modify at any time.

The answer to this question can vary for everybody who comes in seeking this work, and depends on many factors. Learning new ways of holding and expressing ourselves can take time and isn’t a quick fix. At the same time, we can also get significant change and relief from discomfort in a short amount of time. To create lasting change, we might want to commit to a longer period of working together.
A noble goal is to give you the tools you need to embody the work in your everyday life so you can build independence with your activities of daily living.
