Dermoneuromodulation (DNM)

Dermoneuromodulation (DNM)

Dermo-(skin), neuro-(nervous system), modulation-(change) is an interactive form of manual therapy that considers how the client’s nervous system can evoke change in the body. DNM is more than just a technique: when the practitioner interacts with the client’s first layer of tissue - the skin - the input sensation is communicated to the client’s nervous system where it is interpreted and a resulting effect is elicited (ideally a decrease in pain, muscle guarding, etc.). The hands on techniques are slow, light, and focused on engaging the body in a way that the nervous system can recognize the touch as pleasant and easeful. This can be done by positioning the body comfortably, and waiting for the nervous system to regulate.
